SYSTEM TYPE B Installation: Commercial Grid Connect Solar System

Client: Great Lakes Council –
Bulahdelah Resource Recovery & Waste Transfer Station

Background:

This new $1.6m Resource Recovery & Waste Transfer Station was built for local residents to dispose of their excess rubbish waste. Unlike landfill where all waste mass is buried, the transfer station is a drop-off centre where all waste is assessed and processed. Reusable and recyclable items are separated, and only a small amount of residual waste is then compacted and sent to the Tuncurry Waste Management Centre for landfill. The Bulahdelah Resource Recovery & Waste Transfer Station diversion for recycling rates now range between 50% – 70%.

This facility was also a joint winner in the WMAA Excellence Award in the Small Waste Transfer Station category for 2011.

Project Works:

Solar Service Centre installed a Grid Connect solar system which not only provides the Waste Transfer Station with an estimated 80% of their energy requirements but also provides the Council with an annual return income of $3,000 through the 20c Feed–in tariff.
